Brian Bruce

Brian Bruce is president of West Virginia American Water, the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water services to approximately one-third of all West Virginians. Bruce is responsible for all aspects of the business, including customer, regulatory and local government relationships and operational and financial performance, and is the principal external contact for American Water in W.Va.

Prior to his current position, Bruce was president of New York American Water. Before that, he was the first vice president of operations for New York American Water, where he oversaw the operations of the company’s customer service, production, water quality, environmental management, transmission and distribution, risk management and maintenance departments. Bruce came to New York American Water from California American Water, where he held a variety of roles of progressing responsibility.

Before joining American Water in 2005, Bruce worked for the City of Papillion, Neb., first as water department superintendent, obtaining his State Grade 1 Operators License, and later as Assistant Public Works Director. He also has experience as a water system operator in Wisconsin, where he earned state licensure in Supply Operations – Surface and Ground Water. Additionally, he had a license in the state of Michigan in Plant Operations and Distribution.

A veteran of the United States Navy, Bruce earned a bachelor’s degree in business management from Silver Lake College in Wisconsin and an associate’s degree in water and wastewater technology from Bay De Noc Community College in Michigan. Bruce is an active member of the American Water Works Association, and the West Virginia Section of the American Water Works Association. Bruce serves on the board of the West Virginia Chamber of Commerce, the West Virginia Business Roundtable, the Charleston Area Alliance, and the Charleston Regional Chamber of Commerce.
